Legal Requirement
The Workplace Safety and Health (Shipbuilding and Ship-repairing) Regulations 2008 Reg. 6 (2) stipulates that “It shall be the duty of every person not to carry out any hazardous work in a shipyard or on board a ship in a harbour unless he has undergone a safety and health training course approved by the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health.”
For Whom
The AWSHS is a mandatory WSH training course for all workers working in the shipbuilding and ship repairing industry.
Entry Requirement
Participant must be able to read, write and speak in the language in which the course is conducted.
Course Overview
- Understand legal obligations in workplace safety and health.
- Identify hazards in a shipyard.
- Recognize all types of industrial safety signs.
- Understand application process for safety permit prior to hot work.
- Competent in wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Know and take safety precautions when working with different hazards.
- Able to respond in case of fire or emergency.
Course Content

- Fire and Explosion Hazards.
- Prevention of Fires & Explosions.
- Preventive Measures for Specialized Operations.
- Preventive Measures for Material Handling.
- Preventive Measures for Mechanical and Electrical Works.
- Preventive Measures for Working in at Height.
- Preventive Measures for Working in Confined Space.
- Personal Protective Equipment.
Course Duration: 8 hours including 1 hours of assessment

Qualification or experience of facilitators:
A facilitator and assessor of this course will possess the following:
- A facilitator / assessor for the course shall possess the following:
- Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health
- At least 5 years of relevant working experience as a supervisor / foreman / safety personnel in the marine industry
- Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) or Diploma in Adult Continuing Education (DACE)

Assessment Advice
1-hour of written assessment with 40 multiple choice questions (MCQ) test. The passing mark for the written assessment is 60%. Failure to pass the assessments shall render a “Fail” outcome for the learner and he must then re-attempt the course and assessments.

I am writing through my experience on your awesome staff Ms Rajeswari (Customer service officer) dated 1 & 2 Aug 2022. Me & my colleague wanted to attend the SSIC urgently on the earliest date…Ms Rajeswari was able to allocate us for the 2nd Aug. She has the “GEM” (Go the extra mile) personality which she manage to assist us in the admin/payment issues till 9pm on Monday, 1st Aug. On the the date of the lesson, she still assist us with the admin issues & we manage to attend & complete the course without any issue on 2ng Aug. My sincere apology if I have create an issues on the inquiries but Eversafe has a great & patience staff like Ms Rajeswari that able to attedn and resolve our concerns. We have a project for the employees to work at Shipyard. However, the employees are required to attend the mandatory training on Apply Workplace Safety and Health in Shipyard-General Trade. Ms Rajeswari has been helping us with all the coordination. We are thankful to her for helping us with getting the certification card today even though the payment will only be paid tomorrow.
